What Would It Be Like To Live In A Gingerbread House?

It would be awesome. Who wouldn't want to live in a gingerbread house?! Your house would always smell nice, it would look delicious, it would definitely taste good ! Although, it would also be difficult. I would probably eat my gingerbread house. The smell would be so tasteful that it would make me eat my house. If I eat my house, I probably wouldn't have a place to live.

How Did You Feel About Your TTWWG Project?

How I feel about my project..hmmm... I feel okay about it. It was a little hard at first because of how I was going to put Janie's speech in the diary. I couldn't even understand her speech in the book so how was I going to do that in the diary? In the end I just wrote it how I would write it, but with Janie's mind and feelings. Trying to make it look old? One of the hardest things to do. Maybe even harder than the writing. When I completely finished my project I kind of felt good of what I did. Even though it wasn't what I visioned I still liked it.

Look Back At The Passages You Found For Homework. Why Do You Think That O'Brien Includes These Moments Of Beauty In A Novel About War?

I think that O'Brien includes those moments of beauty in a novel about war because maybe the novel isn't all about war. It could just take place during a war. It could be about the soldiers lives during the war and their story. Well, and we all know its also about the story behind the things they carry with them to combat. They might have included moments of beauty in the novel so the novel won't be so dark and gloomy and all about war.

Do You Believe That Going To War Made O'Brien A Coward? Why Or Why Not? Did Reading This Story Make You Think Differently About Going To War?

I don't think it made him a coward. I say he's not a coward for going to war because I think he kind of convinced himself that he can't just run from his problems. If you do it just creates more problems for yourself. I don't think it made me think differently about going to war. For one thing: I would have probably done what O'Brien did. I would try to flee and find another way to provide for myself, to not think about the draft and avoid it. Although I probably would've held on much longer to the fact that I could run from war. After a little while I probably would've gave in to my conscious telling me its wrong to flee and that I won't get away with it.

What Is O'Brien Saying Here? Do You Agree Or Disagree With Him? Why?

I don't really know what he is saying. I guess what  (I think) he's trying to say is that memories will be remembered better if told as a story. I guess I kind of agree with him. Whenever I want to recall what happened in the past, I tell it as a story. Sometimes, I don't consciously think about how I am telling people what I remember. Although most of the time, I tell it as a story because that is the easiest way to remember it.

Respond To The Story "The Things They Carried". Go Beyond "I Liked It" Or "I Hated It". How Did It Make You Feel? Why Do You Think O'Brien Spent So Much Time Talking About The Stuff That The Soldiers Lugged Around?

Right now, I'm kind of puzzled about the book. For example: one character in the book carries condoms with him. Another character carries brass knuckles with him. Also, another soldier carries his girlfriends' pantyhose with him. Why do they carry those things with them? I mean, i think I get why one of the soldiers carries his girlfriends' pantyhose, but what about the other things that the soldiers carry? I know that I still have to read the rest of the book to figure it out, but when I first read the 1st chapter, it just left me puzzled.

Can Fiction Give Us A Better Understanding Of Our Lives?

I don't think so... Fiction is kind of like a fairytale world, where everything we wished happened in that world, would happen in reality. Fiction sometimes over dramatizes reality, making it seem unreal. It's not reality. ALTHOUGH, fiction could be based on reality. If you are reading a fictional book and you think to yourself that whatever was happening in that book happened to you or someone you know as well, but just a little over dramatized. When fiction is based on reality, I think it could give us a better understanding of our lives.

What Would You Do If You Were Drafted? (If A Country Told You To Go To War For It)

Well, my first instinct is to say no, immediately. First, I would ask why am I being called to fight in the war. Also, I would ask what caused the war. Then when I have all the information I need about the war and why I'm being called to fight, I would make my decision. Like I said before, my first instinct is to say no. NO ! For me personally, I probably wouldn't fight in a war because....well.... I'm afraid of death. If I'm going to die, I would die peacefully, not during a war battle. I probably would find any way possible to get out of trying to get drafted to war.

What Do You Know About The Vietnam War? What Do You Want To Know?

I know nothing about the Vietnam War. I mean, I've heard the name before and I've probably learned a little about it in Middle School and forgot about it, but overall I don't know about it. Hmm, what I want to know about the Vietnam War is... what was it about? How long did it last? Who fought in the war? Where did it take place? What year did it happen in? Was the U.S. involved in the war? How many people died? What effect did the war have on the world?

My Response To The Song "Styrofoam Plates"

Well, my response to the song "Styrofoam Plates" is that the song is kind of sad. The song basically talks about how the boy's father died and I think he is happy about the fact that his dad is dead. He also talks about Thanksgiving with his father. The last line of the song made me think like "Whoa, he must REALLY hate his dad". The last line I think he said that his dad was a bastard when he was alive and is still a bastard when he is dead. The whole song just overall made me sad. Also it made me stop and think about how grateful I am to have my family all come together, set up the table, eat, and give thanks to what we have in our lives.

Do You Think That Janie Did The Right Thing In The End? Would You Be Able To Do The Same Thing- To Kill A Person You Love If Circumstances Required It?

I think that I would, but not consciously. If the person I love was threatening me and physically trying to hurt me, I would quickly defend myself, but at the same time not try to hurt the person I love. If it gets to a certain point where he tries to shoot me, I will probably end up killing hi without realizing it until everything is very quiet and everything stops. After a while it will hit me. I just killed the person that I love. Then I would feel incredibly guilty and probably feel depressed for a while. I kind of think what Janie did at the end of the book was probably the right thing to do. Tea Cake was coming at her with a gun, she just defended herself. Plus he was already going to die anyway with the infection and all, so it was bound to happen sooner or later. it was just not the way she expected him to die.

Do You Agree Or Disagree With This Quotation? Why?

"If you love somebody, let him/her go". I kind of don't agree with this quotation but then again it just depends on the situation to why you have to let the one you love go. I don't agree with this quotation because if you love someone, why would you let that person go? Wouldn't you NOT want to let him/her go? Wouldn't you want to be with him/her for as long as possible? I also think it just depends on the situation. If you think the one you love deserves someone better than you (because you are putting that person through hell) then I could see why this quotation applies.

Is There Anything Worth (Physically) Fighting For? If So What? If Not, Why?

I think if someone threatens your family or loved one that they are worth fighting for. What if someone was holding your family hostage? What if someone was holding a gun to your loved one's head? What would you do? I don't know about you, but I would fight. I believe that family and loved ones are worth fighting for. For one thing, your family, well... is your family. You should love and care about them because they have been there and done things for you your whole life. As for loved ones, if you truly love someone so much, will you be willing to fight for them if they are in danger? Is it worth the fight? My answer is: yes. I don't know what I would do if I lost the person I love.

Pick One (or more) Of The Following Quotes. Do You Agree or Disagree? Why?

"Envy is a waste of time" - Author Unknown. I agree with this quote because when you envy someone, you put all your energy in envying them. You are basically spending all your time thinking (and sometimes not even conciously thinking) about it and that's not good. It's kind of like clouding your mind from what you should be doing which is living your life, not even thinking about anyone else but yourself. You shouldn't be worrying what people have succeeded or what they have that you wanted because that would be like wasting time on someone else's life instead of trying to make yours better. If you make yours better then you can get what the person you envy has and more.

How Does Jealousy Affect A Relationship (Either A Friendship Or A Romantic Relationship)?

In a romantic relationship, jealousy is one of the big issues in a breakup between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. Jealousy affects a romantic relationship because jealousy can lead people to do things that they probably wouldn't have done. Jealousy can make a girl/boy so mad that other people around them end up getting hurt in the process of letting out all that anger for the girl/boy's jealousy. For example: if a girl sees her boyfriend getting a little too "friendly" with another girl, she begins to get jealous. Therefore, making her pick a fight with her boyfriend and ending things in a way that should not have been done.

What Are Your Goals For The New Quarter?

My goals for the new quarter are that I get good grades (scratch that, really good grades!). Last quarter since I started late was the worst possible way for me to start off the school year. I was completely stressed out by the fact that I had horrible grades. That changed when I started going after school, studying and doing work that I have to make up from when I was gone. I am going to come to school everyday and not miss a day of school. Therefore, studying and getting good grades on my tests/quizzes will be a good way to start and finish off the 2nd quarter.

Should We Judge The Past By The Standards Of It's Time, Or By The Standards Of Our Time? Explain.

It depends on the situation. If the situation was a bad one, then we could learn from it. The thing is, I don't think we can judge them. We can't possibly think like the people did years and years ago because we were not in their situation. And if we were in a situation even fairly similar to it, we still couldn't imagine the decisions they made during their situation. I don't think you can judge people by what they did in the past. If you were to put yourself in their shoes, I bet you would make the same choices they did. But I also still think that if the situation was bad like...say we were judging slavery. I think its wrong what they did to the African Americans and basically used them as mules. See, I'm judging the white slave owners on how they treated the African Americans. Like I said, it just depends on the situation and how you look at it.

What Makes A (Romantic) Relationship Work? Why?

I think communication and your love for one another should make a romantic relationship work. For some people it just depends on what they want or how they act in a romantic relationship. If they just flirt and they get along or if they just have great chemistry together then that's what they need to make it work. But for people who just want a real, romantic relationship with a person they really like then communication is key. If you don't talk to your boyfriend/girlfriend they are going to end up getting mixed signals and take things the wrong way. THAT IS BAD if you guys really like each other.

What Have You Learned While Growing Up About Being Male or Female?

What I learned while growing up about being female is that a female has to have nice manners, work hard, and don't trust everyone. Well, I learned about what a period is when I got it for the first time. My mom and aunts JUST tell me about it when I JUST got it. They told me your starting to be a woman now. Also, they taught me how to dress. You have to look nice, don't wear anything too short and revealing and don't wear anything too baggy and boy-ish looking.

Why Is It So Important To Have Someone Listen To You?

I think it's very important to have someone listen to you in your time of crisis. It's important because you ca have a second opinion on what you are going through. Plus you can get advise form a different perspective on what you are going through. Then again, there are some people who don't care if you listen to them go on and on about their problems or situations. There are also people who don't want you to listen to their problems and tell you their input on the situation/problem.

What Makes A Person Interesting?

I think what makes a person interesting is basically how they do things. For example: if they talk a certain way or if they are just different from everyone else. Also, their interests make them interesting. If they like something that you have never heard of and they tell you about it is another way that makes a person interesting. Their background story can make a person interesting because whatever happened to them in the past made them into the interesting person they are today.

What Does Janie Want?

In the book Their Eyes Are Watching God, everyone wants to know what's up with Janie. They want to know about her relationship and what happened to her and Tea Cake and why she's even with Tea Cake. Janie's friend Pheoby wants to know what happened to Janie as well. Did you ever think about what Janie wanted? She lost her husband, and apparently lost her sight of how to love. I think Janie just wants to be happy and be loved again.
In chapter 3 she began to stop believing in true love or romantic love when she had to marry Logan. "She knew now that marriage did not make love. Janie's first dream was dead, so she became a woman". When she meets Joe, they talk about marrying each other. For example: Joe says to Janie "Ah wants to make a wife outa you". Also when Nanny tells her she should marry Logan, she tells Nanny "Lemme wait, Nanny, please, jus' a lil bit mo'". Maybe when she tells Nanny for her to wait until she gets married is probably because she wants to find someone she actually loves in order for her to get married. Also she believes that no one can make her happy like Tea Cake could.  Like in Chapter 1 she tells Pheoby "Yeah, Pheoby, Tea Cake gone. And dat's de only reason you see me back here-cause Ah ain't got nothing to make me happy no more where Ah was at". Janie wants someone to love her and make her happy.

To What Extent Do Our Desires Drive Our Actions?

I think what we want definitely drives our actions to a point where it's probably beyond our control anymore. Well, it depends on what people want. If a person just wants something they just want, then their actions are not as driven as what they really, really, REALLY want. If a person wants something and need it really bad, then they are going to do whatever it takes to get what they want, no matter what it takes. Everyone is like that deep down inside of them.

What Would You Do Differently If There Were 30 Hours In A Day?

Man, I don't know what I would do if there were 30 hours in a day. I mean I wake up, go to school, stay after school to do homework, go home, study, spend time with family, then go to bed. I guess I would just do what I do for 24 hours, then for the extra 6 hours I would just catch up on some sleep. Another thing I could do is probably spend more time with my friends or spend some time practicing on how to play the piano.

What Do You Think The World Will Look Like In 100 Years?

In 100 years, I think the world will go insane. In a movie (that's not in theatre yet) called "In Time" everyone only gets 25 years to live. Once you are passed with your 25 years, you die. I think the little bracelet where you see how many years you have left goes off and then you die. If you are rich or FILTHY rich you can get more time on your life. I think that is what the world will be like in 100 years. That is also the reason why the world has gone insane, because the government (or aliens) are limiting people's lives to decrease the population OR... nope, that's the only reason I've got.

Greatest Dream I've Ever Had...

I don’t think I’ve ever had a great dream. Lately my dreams have been all over the place. I can go from having a good dream to having a dream about someone in my life getting killed or someone in my life trying to kill me...yeah, I have random dreams all the time.
